McCurdy given Ag Ambassador Award by Farm Bureau
Meredith McCurdy of Batesville has been named the winner of Farm Bureau’s
Ag Ambassador Award for 2007 at the organization’s annual meeting
on November 30.
McCurdy has served as state FFA president and as Panola County Miss Hospitality.
She is majoring in agriculture information science with a concentration
in communication at Mississippi State University.
But perhaps her greatest honor is her selection as a National Collegiate
Agricultural Ambassador by the Collegiate FFA program for 2007-2008. She
was one of only 20 such ambassadors chosen in the country. Over the next
year, these students will serve as ambassadors by delivering presentations
to high school classes, community organizations, and other groups interested
in learning more about the opportunities that the agricultural industry
has to offer.
Farm Bureau President David Waide said, “Meredith has represented
agriculture and Mississippi very well in her travels across the country.
We’re very proud of her and her accomplishments.”
McCurdy was first runner-up in the Miss Farm Bureau –Mississippi
contest for two consecutive years. She is a current Farm Bureau Young
Farmers and Ranchers Scholarship recipient and has also received the Berta
Lee White Scholarship.
The Ag Ambassador Award was created to recognize individuals who have
gone beyond their normal range of activities in promoting Mississippi
agriculture. It’s not presented every year – only when Farm
Bureau feels that it has been earned.
